What is an extended deep plane facelift?

The “deep plane” is a structure beneath the facial skin, a sheet of muscles called the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) or platysma layer. In an extended deep plane facelift, four key ligaments that anchor the tissues are released, making it possible to reposition the facial tissues to the original, youthful position. The underlying structure is lifted, excess skin is removed, and the incisions are meticulously closed. This approach achieves a critical difference by avoiding any tension or pulling for the most natural look. This tension-free surgery also leaves a much thinner scar, which becomes virtually invisible once fully healed.

Why choose OG Aesthetics?

Aging gracefully – what does it mean? It doesn’t have to mean accepting sagging skin, jowls, or the loss of youthful definition at the jawline – or feeling less confident in your look. If you had the opportunity to restore your best self, in the most natural way, you could extend the years of appearing youthful, refreshed, and rejuvenated. The benefits are incredible – you can look years younger, without any concerns that you won’t look like yourself.

Unleash your natural beauty

We offer the most innovative, long-lasting, and natural face and neck lift approach that is currently available: the extended deep plane facelift. Our double board-certified plastic surgeons are among only a handful of facial plastic surgeons in the country that offer this groundbreaking surgical technique. Technically, this approach requires an exceptionally high level of education, training, and experience to master the ability to operate skillfully on the deep plane. This approach brings the benefit of rejuvenating the midface structures, elevating the cheeks, and smoothing smile lines (nasolabial folds). The outcome of this advanced facelift technique is remarkably natural-looking, and the scars become virtually invisible once healed – a truly ideal outcome.

Deep plane facelift vs. traditional facelift

You have probably encountered someone who has had a traditional facelift – as it was obvious that the person had surgery. A traditional facelift involved removing excess skin, pulling it tight, and reconnecting the skin with sutures. This approach did not address the underlying muscle structure and left the skin looking (and feeling) overly pulled, which often led to distorted features and visible scars. Some plastic surgeons still use this technique, and many people have been deeply disappointed both in the appearance of their results and how long their outcome lasted.

A deep plane facelift is entirely different, in that it treats the underlying facial structure, allowing the facial tissues to be gently repositioned to the natural, youthful position, removing excess skin, and closing the incisions without causing tension on the skin. While a deep plane facelift takes longer to perform, this advanced approach has the benefit of achieving a result that appears entirely natural, never pulling or distorting your natural features. If you have decided it is time for a facelift, you deserve world-class results that look like you: refreshed, youthful, and above all – natural.

Benefits of a deep plane facelift

  • Minimal scarring
  • Looks incredibly natural
  • Takes ten to fifteen years off your look
  • Surgical elevation of the cheek tissues
  • Offers more underlying support, for results that last far longer
  • Does not create the “windswept” look of traditional surgery
  • Invisible incisions
  • Decreased bruising and risk of skin necrosis
  • Shorter recovery times
  • Less risk of long-term skin injury

Recovery after a deep plane facelift

The beauty of your facelift will require some patience, but our patients tell us the results are well worth the wait. You can expect to experience some bruising, swelling, and discomfort, which is managed with pain medication in the early stages. Your face will be protected with a specialized compression garment, so the tissues heal smoothly. Within about three weeks, these effects fade, and you will be ready to reveal your refreshed look. As the weeks pass, the tissues settle even more, leaving you looking incredibly rejuvenated – but in the most natural way, not stretched, pulled, or overdone, but like you, at your best. We will be monitoring your recovery to ensure it is uneventful, and that you are delighted with the results.
