As we age, the upper lip elongates and can droop beyond the upper teeth, leading to a less youthful appearance. By lifting the upper lip, we restore vertical balance to the lips and face. Our skilled, precision-minded plastic surgeons strive to rejuvenate your smile and elevate your overall quality of life.

Dramatic anti-aging results with a lip lift in Menlo Park

In the right patient, this simple procedure can lead to a dramatic level of rejuvenation. This procedure is also well suited for patients who were born with naturally elongated upper lips, for which filler is a poor solution. These patients can find that filler alone causes a sausage-like or droopy upper lip. In the ideal candidate, a lip lift is a long-term solution to restore and enhance beauty and balance in the smile.

Types of lip lifts

There are three types of lip lifts: the bullhorn, the crescent, and subnasal.

The bullhorn lip lift creates a horizontal incision just above the vermilion border of the upper lip. This technique removes a triangular-shaped strip of skin, which causes the center of the upper lip to lengthen and creates more fullness in the lower lip.

The crescent lip lift is similar to the bullhorn technique, but instead of making a horizontal incision, a curved incision is made along the inside edge of the nostrils. This technique can be used to create more fullness in the lower lip or to correct asymmetry.

The subnasal lip lift is performed by making an incision underneath the nose. This technique can be used to create more fullness in the upper or lower lips. It is important to consult with a trained specialist before undergoing any type of procedure. They will be able to assess your individual needs and recommend the best course of treatment.

What is the recovery from a lip lift?

Recovery from a lip lift is typically quick, with most patients requiring only a few days of downtime. However, it is important to follow your surgeon's instructions carefully to ensure optimal results. You may be asked to eat soft foods for several days after your procedure. Most patients can return to work within a week.
