This patient presented to the clinic seeking to improve her facial balance, particularly around the mouth. She had her lips filled by another provider and felt that her lips looked unnatural.
After full facial analysis, Dr. Gadaleta informed the patient that her upper lip was elongated. Although elongated lips are more commonly associated with the natural aging, some individuals may be born with it. When a lip hangs below the front teeth, filler can lead to suboptimal results and only exaggerate the problem.
Together with the patient, Dr. Gadaleta formed a plan to dissolve the filler and surgically lift the lip. The goals of lip lift surgery are to decrease the length of the white upper lip. By doing so, the red lip is also pull up and out of the mouth, which increases height of the red lip in a natural way. It also provides "tooth show," which is nicely demonstrated in this before and after.
She is 3 months recovered in this photo and healing beautifully. Her results are not only permanent, but much more natural than what could have been achieved with filler.
